Midnight Madness 5K Recap!

Racing Season is here!! I just wish cooler temperatures were here too.

At the last minute I signed up for a 5K last friday night: Midnight Madness. It sounded like a good idea at the time. But come game day and I was a lot less excited about the whole thing. I was LAZY this weekend. Like seriously not getting out of bed, lazy.

To be honest, it was nice! I feel like I’ve been going going going  lately and yes, I had things on my to-do list but I didn’t have to be anywhere so I took advantage and didn’t leave the house. (On Thursday, I even had food delivered! Yay for grubhub and vegan PF changs options.) But when it came time to actually leave the house, and for a race, oof it was rough.

But I got off my ass and went. And of course I got lost so hey, another reason to just head home? No, I found the place. Then I read the email wrong and thought the race started at 7pm but it started at 8! I had a whole hour to kill and again thought, forget it just go home. But I stayed and I actually ran.

The gun finally went off at 8pm and it was still hot hot hot! Since it was dark the sponsors had glow sticks for people to snap around and light up as they ran. It was pretty fun.

The course was pretty flat with one little dip in the middle but easy going.

My goal for this race was just run. Run the whole thing and do not stop.

And I DID! It sounds so simple. For a girl that should be marathon training 3 miles is easy. And it was easy, kinda… it did make me realize that I am capable of running 3 miles but not ready for 26.2. Was I the fastest? Nope. Did I want to stop? Yup. Did I keep running away? Hell yeah. It was a good reminder that running (every distance, every ‘type’ of run) is supposed to hurt! It’s supposed to challenge and push you. So I felt really good about how I did! mm-otter.jpg

The best part was that at the end they had otter pops! I’m going with lime every time! Plus they had finisher medals if you’re into bling. (I still haven’t unpacked my medals and bibs from when I moved last month!)

There’s another midnight madness in the series in October that I’m debating about. I have a 20K the very next day so I probably can’t do both. I have to remind myself I can’t do every run in the world!!

Cocky or Confident?

Image result for running half marathon meme

I have a half marathon on Sept 16th. I was so focused on NYCM that I basically ignored the half coming up. I keep thinking, “Eh half marathons are so easy! I’ve done so many. I can do another one.”

Well… it’s not like my training is going stellar. And my last half was a little rough and dirty.

So I go to look up the race details on this one and I see on their website the phrase boasting, “The Flagstaff Marathon…is known as one of the most challenging courses in the country.”  UMM HUH?

The Most Challenging Course? I’m not prepared for the MOST challenging course!

In my head, I’m super great! It’s not a bad thing to think since running is 90% mental. If you think you can, you can! And for me, I know I CAN run 13.1 miles. It may not be fast, or pretty, or easy but it’s definitely doable. So sometimes that confidence brushes up to cocky and I think, “I know I can, so I don’t have to train today!!” You know why some half or even full marathons go better for me than others?! It’s because of how I’ve treated my body up until race day! Was I putting in the work? Was I eating right?? Did I let myself slip and give myself excuses?

So yes, I CAN run a half marathon as long as I’m training right.

Last Spring – RnR Phx

I have to admit to myself that I’m not super woman that can wake up Saturday morning and run for three hours without so much as stretching before hand. Put in the work, Lindsay!

Okay so new plan! I’m going to focus on hills and trails and JUST this half! And then when I’m done, I can get back to NYCM. It’s not like I haven’t been running at all. I just am not running as strong or as long as I should be. But I have a few short weeks to get my crap together and get back on track! I tell ya, I cannot wait for this weather to cool down!! Man, it’s hot out there. Even when I go out at 5 am in the dark still. Winter is coming???

Phoenix Marathon Update

After much deliberation, I finally, officially decided to drop down to the half marathon for Phoenix (now the Mesa-Phx (since 0% of the race is actually in Phx?)) I honestly just wasn’t ready or training the way I’d like. Yes there was laziness on my part but there was also sickness and injuries that knocked me outta the game.

I decided to just focus on running the best half I could and really wanted to do well! I was proud of my performance at the RnR half considering I woke up sick 2 days before and I felt really good and kept a good pace throughout the race. I know I’m a slow poke, but I had a good finish time (for me) at 2:27.

Even on FB I said 2:26

Then a couple nights ago I was cleaning up my desk (where I keep my bibs just in a pile…) and looked at my bib from last year’s Phx half and I’d written 2:26 as my finish time. Well, I actually double chked that today and it has me at 2:24!  Gun time was 2:26, rookie mistake.

sorry it’s so small…

So that’s my PR as of today but I realllly want to beat that this year! I liked the Phx course and the finish line/ zone was amazing! It had so much food and vendors and exhibits it was like another expo but even better because everything was free! haha.

Goal is to take a whole 5 min off my PR. I’m going to 2:19! #under220
